One of the most loyal dogs a dog owner could ever want is a Doberman. Originally bred in Germany to protect people from thieves this breed was created from a perfect collection of canines that a single breeder felt would create the most protective dog. That is how the Doberman breed was born and that is why there are so many proud Doberman breeders of this family dog.

Throughout history this breed served many interesting and valiant positions. It aided police officers in quests to capture criminals and it is even the named battle dog of the Marine Corps for the United States. 25 of these dogs lost their lives in the war when liberating Guam. They have earned their mark in this country since their introduction to the Americas in the early 1900s.

Doberman breeders often find their customers to be families that want a dog that can protect them. This is what Dobermans are known for. They take their responsibility for the home, property and family to the extreme. They do not take kindly to strangers but can be trained to recognize the difference between someone unwelcome versus a mailman or invited guest. This breed is good with children but if the dog feels threatened by a outside child, this may be of some concern. Dog breeders highly recommend plenty of training and attention so that this service dog can serve a family as a guard dog. Without training this dog may not take commands from the owners. This dog is arrogant and extremely smart. A Doberman needs to be taught who the boss is. With proper training you can train a once war dog into an affectionate, loving dog.

Dobermans are prone to a number of health issues but most can be treated or prevented. The ones that are seen most common are Willebrand’s disease and cervical vertebral instability. Doberman breeders tend to sell their pups to those that have the room for this large dog. Small apartments aren’t suitable for a dog of this nature unless they are able to get plenty of exercise. Doberman breeders recognize that this breed is becoming one of the most popular breeds in America and has earned its name as the ideal family dog.
